Report from Audrey Daw (Dec 13th 2011)

October 13th We held a fashion show by Tom Speak. Members and guests enjoyed being shown outfits for all occasions, some lovely evening wear and perfume by ‘Sex in the city’ in presentation boxes. Some new members were welcomed. Refreshments were served and a raffle held.

November 10th ‘Designs for Christmas’ was advertised, but Paul Cook from Cook’s Nurseries had different ideas. He brought some houseplants along to discuss instead as he explained his wife does that, not he. We were a little alarmed to what members would think, but no need, Paul being an amusing speaker, the evening concluded very well and questions were answered about growing and tending plants such as the ones he brought along. Members were given a bulb each to take home. The usual tea was served as well as a raffle. Members were reminded to pay for their Christmas Dinner.

December 8th We held our annual Xmas Dinner the The Hundred House, Great Witley. 49 members sat down to an enjoyable festive meal. Audrey welcomed everyone and presented committee members with a little thank you gift and she was given one in return. Members each brought a gift for exchange which were placed around the tables. A raffle for a doll which had been given by a member for Acorns was won by Kim and raised £50 to which we added another £50 from our funds making a £100 donation to Acorns (the charity we support). Audrey then read a little poem by Pam Ayres which gave all a good laugh to set the evening in a happy mood. Grace was said. After dinner we were entertained by ‘Dandy’, Alan and Glynis gave us a good laugh with their Black Country humour and sang some festive songs and before we knew it, it was time to bid all a merry Xmas and a safe journey home concluding a very enjoyable evening and another year !
