ARELEY KINGS VILLAGE HALL

Samba Drumming Band
During 2009 Areley Kings Village Hall ran a series of samba drumming workshops by Glamba, kindly sponsored by Wyre Forest District Council. This developed into a permanent band (Severn Valley Samba) which practices at the Hall and performs regularly around Wyre Forest. No experience is needed (just enthusiasm) and all instruments are provided. Open to adults and young people over the age of 8 yrs [children must be accompanied by an adult]. Learn the sound of the Rio Carnival and hear the sounds of Brazil created by a wide variety of authentic Samba instruments. Sundays at 10 am - 2 hours including refreshments. £3.00. Full details of practice dates and gigs (and much more !) see www.severnvalleysamba.org.uk

This year we had 2 very successful evenings thanks to funding from Shindig (funded by the arts council). Evening Star were six fantastic folk musicians from across Europe and James Hickman and Dan Cassidy – a folk duo who gave us a wonderful evening of folk and roots music from America and Britain. I have booked more exciting concerts for this season. This time I have tried to provide a variety of entertainment and have been successful in booking the following;
Friday 11th Nov
Zulu – a theatre company, a band, a dance troupe, a group of storytellers all rolled into one!! This exciting show encompasses a wide range of musical styles to present a spectacle of rich African culture.
Saturday 4th Feb 2012
The Old Dance school – A Birmingham-based seven piece folk band, their music ranges from mellow, to uplifting, groovy and lively. They mix fiddles, whistles, guitar, vocals, bass and Cajon percussion. This is music with a big smile on its face!
Friday 16th March 2012
Fast Woman – The Northumberland Theatre Company. NTC’s latest production tells the tale of Helle Nice – artists model, dancer and champion racing driver – scintillating in a Citroen, dashing in a Duesenberg, unbeatable in a Bugatti!! - Sounds amazing!
More information of these shows nearer the time but please make a note of the dates in your diaries – the last shindig show was a sell-out so don’t forget to book your tickets early! Make sure you support our Village Hall events.

The Trustees are currently working with Wyre Forest District Council and a number of volunteers from the community to develop an arts programme in the building under the banner of "Arts in the Hall".
